(Litez's Thoughts)
Gun Tight Slots HB Wk - Just like Chicago, it's missing the Flood play (Bengals have it), but its still really good without it tbh.
Wing Close is a new formation that has some nice spacing. With the run game, you have a flippable wide zone as well as a dive, so a three headed rushing attack could be nice. The pass plays have double outs, which has both WR’s on speed outs, and the outside TE on a trail. PA Cross, again, you have a compressed skinny post and a crosser from the opposite side. You also have a deep corner by the Bunch WR. You can motion out the RB to the solo WR side to create a unique 5 wide look and still protect. A formation like this could be real fun once HRM drops.
The SB bunch x nasty is almost complete. Missing a few plays, but good enough to run. The fact that you can motion the rb to the line to block or put on routes, should make this even more usable in M24. Also, the fact that the TE can now block without using motion, is huge. Tight ends were horrible at blocking last year without secure protector as they’d get ragdolled. They changed that this year so formations like this are going to be even better. The tight y off is a great formation to audible to. You have a flippable stretch and the best play is PA Bengals Leak. Put the slot wr on the left on a streak. Run it with the double WR’s to the short side and this play can crush zone and man for a one play score.
My gut tells me this formation will be back from the M20 vault to terrorize people. The run game has flippable stretch, toss, power o, and dive. PA Boot flow has the dreaded Post/Corner going the same way, and PA TE leak is a real glitchy pass play with the strong side WR on a sharp post, the TE on mid corner, and the solo WR on a deep post. Should be able to bomb with this play and also create multiple route combos to beat man and zone. One click to the right is Y off close. A new formation and the main pass play is PA Pylon Sail. This play has two very unique corner routes by the strong side WR and the TE. Dual corners was the best passing concept in M23 and felt very good during the beta. Also has double dig with a post from the opposite side.
Not a complete strong close but has pa slide, double post, mesh post and deep cross. A great complement to the i forms. Weak slot close has PA boot slide which looks like a big hitter. Deep corner by the TE with the WR’s flowing the same way on a post and shallow cross. Another nice complement.
Old school gun split close is officially dead. This version is loaded with C routes and pivots. It’s missing quite a bit but feels like it could be a spacing west coast type scheme, designed to dink and dunk down the field. HB Wheel is still there, as well as both FB inside and Power O. Worth a look for fun off meta purposes
If paired with SB version, it could be good. It’s really missing a few pass plays. The new one to talk about is PA Post Cross. You now have a deep post on the weak side of the formation. Also, the deep crosser by the strong side WR is really good against zones. Unless a cloud is set to 30 yards, nothing else will play it (was getting above 30 yard clouds in early part of beta, may have been changed). Still has read flat wheel which was so OP last year, it forced EA to patch it.
Overall Thoughts: The shotgun game isn’t the best. If you like two back under center sets, this playbook is ideal. If you’re a runner that likes to hit play action down the field, and play ball control, this might be your year.
